Father’s Day Festivities in the NYC Suburbs

Father’s Day Weekend is the perfect time to get out and explore some of NYC’s amazing towns. Relax and have fun!

 

The weekend—and Father’s Day!—is here, and there’s LOTS to do in the NYC suburbs. There’s a little bit of everything—and something for everyone—including carnivals, farmers markets, car shows and cultural festivals happening throughout the ‘burbs. These are perfect ways to explore a few towns like a true insider and get a feel for what your weekends could be like post-move.

HEADING TO CONNECTICUT?

Westport

It’s a fun-filled weekend in Westport! Kick things off with a visit to the famous Yankee Doodle Fair Thursday through Sunday. On Sunday, check out The Beer Garden at Wakeman Town Farm from 12-5pm for live music, a craft fair, kids games and, of course, local brews.

 

Darien

Does your kid have what it takes to be a ninja or parkour expert? Find out during a free 30-minute session at the new Ninja + Parkour Training Center at Chelsea Piers Connecticut from 10:30am-1pm on Saturday.

 

Greenwich

Is the “Baby Shark” song driving you crazy? Teach your kids about the real deal now through September 1 at The Bruce Museum’s Sharks! Exhibit.

 

New Canaan

The Yankee Doodle Fair in Westport is a must-attend for neighbors in New Canaan. Unlimited ride wristbands are available daily, as well as iconic carnival rides such as the scrambler and a carousel.

 

Stamford

Sample the best pizza, beer and enjoy some quality family time Saturday from 2-9pm during Stamford’s Pizza in the Park festival. Also, the Space Invasion is now on all summer long, so head downtown after the festivities to check out one-of-a-kind art installations.

 

Norwalk/Rowayton

Norwalk’s premier Father Daughter Ball is Saturday from 6-9pm at the Stepping Stones Museum for Children; tickets are $60/couple. Get a good night’s sleep, because the Father’s Day Fun Run begins at 9:30am.

 

HEADING TO WESTCHESTER?

Rivertowns

The 2019 Clearwater Festival is Saturday and Sunday at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, featuring music and live performances on seven sustainably powered stages. Get your tickets in advance; camping is available.

 

Chappaqua

It’s never too early to discover a love for theater—and it’s easy with shows like this weekend’s Peter Pan Jr. at the Lighthouse Youth Theater. Tickets are available for Friday and Saturday.

 

Rye

Father’s Day is Sunday–spend some time with your kids creating crafts for dad at the Rye Library from 1-2pm. The craft will be a wooden photo block—the perfect addition to any dresser or workspace.

 

Rye Brook

Rye Brook turns 37 on Saturday! Visit the town for a citywide celebration, and don’t forget your canned goods for the food drive.

 

Armonk

The John Jay Homestead has a full lineup this weekend, beginning with a Farm Market and Herb Market Day from 10am-12pm, followed by a thematic tour of the War of 1812 from 2-3pm.

 

Bedford

Saturday is Truck Day at the Bedford Free Library. Stop by from 10am-1pm to touch, explore and learn about a variety of big trucks littles are sure to love.

 

Katonah

The Caramoor is hosting the Hot Jazz Age Frolic Sunday at 2:30pm. Families are encouraged to come spend the afternoon dancing and enjoying jazz from the ‘20s and ‘30s.

Larchmont

Summer is heating up; arrive early to the Larchmont Farmers Market on the Metro-North parking deck to scoop up the best local fruits, veggies, cheese and other goodies. The market is open from 8:30am-1pm.

 

Mamaroneck

Kids of all ages are invited to make a special Father’s Day craft at Anderson’s Larchmont from 10am-4pm on Saturday. This year’s theme is a hoot—an owl craft!

 

Scarsdale/Edgemont

Greenburgh Nature Center’s Amazing Amphibians event is Sunday from 1-2pm. It’s $5 for members, $8 for non-members and includes a meet and greet with local amphibians and a walk through the surrounding forest.

 

Pleasantville

On Monday from 7-8:30 pm, Rockefeller State Park Preserve is hosting a hike under the full Strawberry Moon.

 

HEADING TO LONG ISLAND?

Roslyn

It’s Family Sundays with arts and crafts at The Manes Center on Sunday from 1:30-4pm. Arrive early to tour the mansion at 1pm.

 

Port Washington

Post Washington’s amazing farmers’ market is back in session on Saturdays from 8am-12pm. Stop by for veggies, fruits, pickles, gluten-free baked goods and other local treats.

 

Sea Cliff

Sea Cliff Farmers Market opens for the 2019 season Saturday at 9am. The market emphasizes produce and goods from local vendors, with many items grown right in Nassau County.

Manhasset

We know what dad really wants for Father’s Day: cars and coffee at Cipollini in Manhasset from 9-11am!  

 

HEADING TO NEW JERSEY?

Chatham

Watch the original Mary Poppins under the stars Friday at 8:15pm at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township. Don’t forget blankets, chairs and snacks!

 

Maplewood

Help save New Jersey’s sea turtles Saturday at the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo. Admission is $10 and includes educational games, free train rides, live music and access to the zoo’s attractions.

 

Westfield

Celebrate American Germanic culture (and all their good eats!) Sunday from 12-6pm during the Deutscher Club of Clark’s Waldfest.

 

Montclair

Visit the Montclair Brewery on Saturday from 12-5pm for the Draught Market, featuring handmade crafts from 10 local artisans and the best brews in town. This is a family-friendly event—even dogs are welcome!

 

Demarest

Closter’s free Summer Concert Series kicks off Friday with The Willies from 7:30-9:30pm. Bring blankets, chairs, picnic dinners and beverages to Memorial Field on Harrington Avenue for a fun night under the stars.

 

Millburn

Ring in summer at The Wyoming Club in Millburn beginning at 5pm. Check out the Ultimate Hot Dog Bar, plus live music starting at 6pm.

 

Summit

Thursday is Family Fun Night in downtown Summit, boasting a balloon artist, magician, live music for kids and other festivities from 4-8pm. On Sunday, celebrate dad in style with a trip downtown for the Cars & Croissants festival and the Summer Farmers Market.
